Gail Burleson: World Traveler & Teacher

Gail Burleson is a pillar resident at Dominion Senior Living of Johnson City. With her welcoming and attentive personality, her desire is to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy. Caring for others has always been a value held dear to Gail as she served alongside her husband during his military years.

Born April 1, 1936, Gail’s adventures began after she married her husband of 40 years who was a Colonel in the Army. Gail and her family lived in at least 30 different states, traveled to many countries in Europe and visited Japan during the time her husband served. There were two places that Gail loved living the most: North-East California and Germany.

Gail, having two daughters of her own, has always loved children. In California, Gail taught as an elementary school teacher, but every place they lived, Gail would take the base children under her wing and teach them. She particularly loved teaching them about the food and culture of the country they were living in. But she did not just take care of the base children; Gail would organize women’s activities on the base as well as organize special dinners for holidays. The men would often leave for weeks at a time and Gail would step up and make sure the women and children left behind were well taken care of.

Gail says that she always felt safe wherever they went. She loved finding out what made each place unique and celebrated the differences by sharing them with the people she lived with.

Gail became a resident at Dominion Senior Living of Johnson City in July 2023, and she has been a joy to everyone she meets. Her interesting stories of her travels takes everyone on journeys far beyond Johnson City.
