Dominion Senior Living of Johnson City held a “Cruisin’ for a Cause” event to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Tennessee. Classic cars of all different colors and styles filled our parking lot. Many vendors, residents, employees, visitors, and even the Chick-fil-A cow took a step back in time as poodle skirts and soda shop decorations transported our community to the 50s.
Our favorite part about this event is that it brought so many different people that we work with together. We got to spend time with vendors that we encounter as we do our jobs every day as well as meet new talented people, we met people from multiple car clubs in the area that showed up to raise awareness and show support, employees took pies to the face to raise money, many donations were made, and residents reminisced about cars they have driven in the past as they pulled into our lot. We even made connections with the president of a car club that would like to work on fundraising together in the future!
One of the most interesting parts of recruiting at car shows for this event was how many people shared with us how Alzheimer’s and dementia have affected them personally. When communities come together for a common goal we are ALL made better. We so much appreciate the work that Dominion allows and encourages us to do so in our community.
