Celebrating Our Residents
Clover Hill Senior Living residents are known for maintaining an active presence in the Maryville community. Over the years they have adopted Cub Scout troops, Girl Scout troops, pre-school classes, at-risk elementary school classes, and numerous efforts in support of Alzheimer’s Tennessee and the Pat Summitt Foundation.
Their most beloved projects are long-standing partnerships with Dotson Memorial Church and the Blount County Veterans Affairs office. Resident interest in missions led to both as this group is passionate about opportunities to directly serve others.
Clover Hill Senior Living Residents Make Sleeping Mats for the Homeless
Residents work with the church making portable sleeping mats for the Lost Sheep Ministry in Knoxville. Residents, their families, and Clover Hill staff save plastic shopping bags. Over a week, it is surprising how many different sizes and colors of bags accumulate. Then, certain mornings are set aside for neatly folding and cutting the bags for crocheting into the 6 ft long mats. The mats are delivered to the homeless by the Knoxville Ministry.
In 2017, during a program for residents, veteran affairs officer, Nathan Weinbaum mentioned a homebound veteran, Tommy. Mr. Weinbaum could have never predicted what happened next. His presentation was completely sidetracked by questions about Tommy. At the residents’ insistence, Life Enrichment Director Lori Zepeda and Mr. Weinbaum worked with Tommy’s out-of-state daughter to allow Clover Hill to “adopt-a-veteran.” Since that time, transportation is arranged so that Tommy can visit regularly with his friends at Clover Hill, both on campus and during trips out. Resident veterans even included him on the Wall of Honor that recognizes resident veterans for their unselfish service to our country.
