Dominion’s Centenarians: Pauline Cornelius

Dominion’s Centenarians: Pauline Cornelius

Pauline Cornelius turns 101 at Dominion of  Frankfort

Pauline Cornelius was born in Corbon, Kentucky in November 1923 and was raised on a farm there until she was 11 years old. With three siblings, Pauline remembers being put to work every day. Each day had its own chore; Monday was wash day, Tuesday was ironing day, etc.

Cornelius traveled extensively in the U.S. and to many countries in Europe.

Pauline and her husband, Lowell, were married in May 1949, which Pauline describes as the happiest day of her life. Together they moved to Keavy, Kentucky and eventually to Richmond, Virginia. Due to Lowell’s career as an Army officer, they traveled extensively in the U.S. and to many countries in Europe. Together they had two children: Susan, and nine years later, David.

Pauline worked at Belk’s Department Store as a department manager and buyer for 21 years. She then started her own custom drapery business, which she ran for several years. But Pauline’s greatest accomplishment was marrying a good man and raising her children.

Pauline moved to Dominion Senior Living of Frankfort over three years ago to be close to her daughter and son-in-law. When asked her favorite part of living at Dominion is, Pauline says that it is the community of friends. She loves the other residents and she loves the staff who treat her like family.
