DOMINION SENIOR LIVING OF LOUISVILLE SHARE THE HERITAGE OF ONE OF THEIR RESIDENTS TO CELEBRATE WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
Louisville, KY (March 2024) — Women’s History Month has been observed in the United States for over 35 years. It has been fundamental in recognizing women’s rights and the historical transformation of women’s rights in America. Never will you find women with such rich wisdom, experience, vibrancy and contribution as those living out their Golden Years at a senior living community. Such is the case at Dominion Senior Living of Louisville, who wish to honor and share the story of one of their beloved residents, Bertha Jacobs.
Ms. Jacobs was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1921 and is approaching her 103rd birthday in May! Most people cannot believe she is the age she is, but if you ask her, it’s nothing special. However, the other residents at Dominion would say Ms. Jacobs is nothing but special.
During World War II, Ms. Jacobs worked for the Health Department, drawing blood from soldiers needing to test for disease, while her boyfriend fought through 42 missions. After the war, they married and she had three children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
When asked what gets her out of bed every morning, she said, “My faith, prayer and good friends.” Ms. Jacobs would never say she is an inspiration, but the other residents would say that just her willingness to keep moving every day encourages them to participate and connect with others.
Ms. Jacobs is just one of the many amazing women at Dominion Senior Living of Louisville whose legacies have touched the lives of many.
“My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” – Maya Angelo
